About Tiska Waltham Abbey

Waltham Abbey is a growing club that welcomes children from the age of 4 years old, and their parents, to join. As well as learning a traditional martial art, there are many benefits that we strive for our students to achieve:

  • Fitness
  • Self Awareness
  • Self Defence
  • Confidence
  • Etiquette
  • Respect
  • Self Discipline

Karate is taught in three aspects:

  • Kihon (basic technique)
  • Kata (forms/patterns)
  • Kumite (sparring)

Each of these aspects make up your grading syllabus, and before being ready to grade for your next belt, we will ensure that you are confident in all of these areas. It takes practice and dedication, but as you progress through the belt system, you will find your abilities and confidence increasing.

The Club Instructor

I have been training Shotokan Karate since the age of 16. I train under our association Chief Instructor, Sensei G Sahota (8th Dan).

I decided to start up karate to build my self confidence and to improve my fitness. This has helped in in all areas of my life, and has given me the opportunity to pass on what I have learned and my passion for Karate to others.

I achieved my 1st Dan in October 2015, and have had the chance to attend Master Courses abroad during this time. In April 2018, I achieved my 2nd Dan.
